A lyrical read aloud, Listen to the Language of the Trees is the story of a seedling, newly sprouted at the base of a giant tree, as it stretches its roots into an underground web of fungi, through which the trees pass messages and share resources. It will take great luck for this tiny seedling to survive, but it will have help! The Douglas Fir forest also harbours creatures like a zany Yellow Pine chipmunk gathering and forgetting seed cones, an owl nested in the giant tree, and chattering Steller's jays. And, as we must never forget, no part of the forest is entirely free from danger!

About the Author

Tera Kelley grew up reading among the towering Douglas firs and pungent cedars of the Pacific Northwest. As a children's bookseller for six years, she watched kids race, skip, and crawl in the direction of the children's book section with the same eagerness she felt at that age. Her first book Ocean Baby was selected for the ocean curriculum of Santa Cruz's Migrant Head Start Program. During her two decades in book publishing, Tera has edited manuscripts and read submissions at Dawn Publications, Copper Canyon Press, and Wave Books.

She is currently a freelance writer and editor in Northern California, where she works at a local library.
